It’s hard to believe we’re already nearing the sixth month of the year. So much has happened that I sometimes forget it has only been a few months since I received the Future Hotel Leader Award. Last weekend, I had the opportunity to redeem one of the prizes, and what an experience it was.
From the very first moment at Pillows Grand Boutique Hotel Maurits at the Park, it was clear what true hospitality is all about: genuine attention, an eye for detail, and service delivered with passion.
The elegantly designed room, overlooking Oosterpark, immediately created a sense of calm in the heart of the city. It is the kind of place where you naturally slow down.
After an active afternoon, we ended the day on the rooftop terrace. This summer, in collaboration with Moët & Chandon, it is without a doubt the place to be. In the evening sun, with views over the park and the city, we enjoyed refreshing, summery cocktails. It is no surprise that Fitz’s Bar was named Cocktail Bar of the Year 2026 by Gault & Millau.
A true highlight was dinner at VanOost Restaurant. We chose the chef’s menu by Floris van Straalen, where every dish felt like a favourite. Refined, thoughtful and perfectly balanced, complemented by excellent wines and service that truly completed the evening.
The following morning began in complete tranquillity at Spring. Breakfast in the sun, right by the park, with a good cup of coffee and greenery all around us.
It was a weekend where everything came together. Not defined by one specific moment, but by the overall experience. That is where true hospitality makes the difference.
My sincere thanks go to the entire team at Pillows Maurits at the Park, and to Jörgen Rijnaard.
With renewed energy, inspiration, and a reaffirmed passion for this industry, I am starting the week ahead.
